South Africans have long become familiar with the call to recycle their waste. This has become ever more apparent as people worked from home during the Covid-19 pandemic, as the waste that was normally generated in the office parks and business operations is now being generated and piling up at home.

Mpact Recycling Schools Competition 2021 is going strong amidst Covid-19 - and are now looking for new schools and communities to make a difference with!

You’ve probably seen these things before but have not actually taken notice of where they are going to or what they mean to you in the bigger scheme of things.

Johannesburg, April 22, 2021 – A paper tower rolls at a snail’s pace in the emergency lane of a busy street. You have seen these waste collectors before. They trudge along roads, footpaths and fields; tugging a bag or makeshift trolley behind them - their eyes focused on every piece of waste in their way.

Johannesburg, March 16, 2021 – One of the planet’s most pressing problems is the incorrect disposal of waste. About 2.01 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste is generated annually, according to the World Bank, with conservative estimates being that at least 33% of that isn’t managed in an environmentally safe manner.

The theme of this year’s Global Recycling Day on 18 March is #RecyclingHeroes. It recognises the people, places and activities that showcase how the Seventh Resource and recycling contribute to an environmentally stable planet and a greener future for all.
