Clean-Up & Recycle Week Competition Terms and Conditions

1. Competition period

This competition runs from 15 September 2025 to 19 September 2025 (“the Competition Period”). Entries received outside of these dates will not be considered.

2. Eligibility - Who can enter

2.1 Individuals, Waste collectors (hawkers) and Suppliers

2.1.1 Individuals: persons aged 18 years or older who sell qualifying recyclable material to participating Mpact Recycling branches. (excluding individuals referred to in 2.1.2).
Waste collectors (hawkers): Individuals who deliver recyclable material on foot or with basic means of transport (such as a trolley).

2.1.2 Suppliers: Individuals or businesses with access to transport (such as a bakkie) who are able to deliver recyclable material in larger volumes directly to a participating Mpact Recycling branch. This includes buy-back centres. This category does not include suppliers, buy-back centres or clients whose recyclables are collected directly by Mpact Recycling.

2.2 Proof of Identity: Proof of identity may be requested from any participant. Where such proof is not available, alternative verification may be accepted at the sole discretion of the relevant branch manager. Any decision regarding acceptable proof will be applied consistently and is final.

2.3 Exclusions: Employees, contractors, and agents of Mpact Recycling, their immediate family members, and anyone directly involved with organising or administering the competition are not eligible to enter.

3. Participating branches

3.1 Participation in this competition is limited to the branches listed below.

3.2 Each participating branch will determine, at its sole discretion, whether entries will be accepted from Individuals / Waste collectors (hawkers), Suppliers, or both categories of participants.

3.3 Qualifying recyclable materials include cardboard, paper, PET plastic, and other materials accepted by Mpact Recycling branches. Each participating branch will determine the grades of recyclable material which will be regarded as qualifying recyclable material and confirm whether the material qualifies before issuing stickers. Participants must confirm eligibility with their local branch before entering. Mpact Recycling accepts no responsibility if a participant is unable to enter at a branch where their grade of recyclable material is not permitted/accepted.

3.4 Eligibility rules at each branch will be communicated on site, and Mpact Recycling accepts no liability for differences between branches.

4. How to enter

4.1 Individuals / Waste collectors (hawkers):

4.1.1 One sticker will be awarded for every 50 kg of qualifying recyclable material sold to a participating branch during the Competition Period.

4.1.2 Five stickers equal one entry into the Individual / Waste collector (hawker) jackpot draw.

4.2 Suppliers:

4.2.1 One sticker will be awarded for every 500 kg of qualifying recyclable material sold to a participating branch during the Competition Period.

4.2.2 Five stickers equal one entry into the Supplier jackpot draw.

4.3 Sales cannot be backdated. Excess kilograms do not carry over to the next sale. For example:

4.3.1 Waste collectors (hawkers): 52 kg = one sticker.

4.3.2 Suppliers: 502 kg = one sticker.

4.4 Stickers will be issued at the cash office and must be affixed to an official Mpact Recycling entry card (available at participating branches).

4.5 Each entry card contains five sticker spaces. Only fully completed entry cards with five stickers will qualify for the draw. Entry cards with fewer than five stickers will not be accepted.

4.6 Sticker allocation will be based solely on weights recorded on Mpact Recycling’s official branch scale or weighbridge at the time of delivery, and such records are final.

4.7 Completed entry cards must be posted into the official entry box at the same branch where stickers were issued. Once a completed entry card has been submitted, participants may request a new card. There is no limit to the number of entry cards per Individual / Waste collector (hawker) or Supplier.

4.8 Entry cards and stickers are subject to availability. Mpact Recycling accepts no liability if cards or stickers are unavailable due to high demand.

4.9 The competition closes at the end of normal branch trading hours on Friday, 19 September 2025.

5. Prizes

5.1 Individual / Waste collector (hawker) prizes: Each participating branch will award four Shoprite vouchers to waste collector (hawker) winners, each valued at R500. A total of 56 vouchers will be awarded, valued at R28 000.

5.2 Supplier prizes: Each participating branch will award one fuel voucher to the Supplier winner, valued at R5 000. A total of 14 vouchers will be awarded, valued at R70 000.

5.3 Branch volume bonus: One additional fuel voucher, valued at R2 000, will be awarded to the Supplier with the highest total volume of qualifying recyclable material sold to Mpact Recycling nationwide during the Competition Period, as determined and recorded by Mpact Recycling’s official branch systems, which shall be final and binding.

5.4 Total prize value: R100 000.

5.5 Prizes are not transferable, exchangeable, or redeemable for cash.

5.6 Mpact Recycling will not replace lost or stolen entry cards and stickers.

6. Draws and winners

6.1 Separate draws will be conducted for Individuals / Waste collectors (hawkers) and Suppliers at each participating branch.

6.2 Draws will take place on Monday, 22 September 2025 at the participating branches and will be conducted by randomly selecting completed entry cards from the official sealed entry box, under the supervision of the branch managers or their appointed representative.

6.3 The entry box will be located at branch reception and will remain under the control of Mpact Recycling staff. While Mpact Recycling will take reasonable steps to secure entry boxes, it will not be liable for any loss, damage, destruction, or unauthorised removal of entry cards once submitted.

6.4 Winners will be contacted using the details provided on their entry card. It is the responsibility of participants to ensure their contact details are correct and legible. Mpact Recycling will not be held liable for any inability to contact a winner due to incorrect or illegible information.

6.5 If Mpact Recycling is unable to successfully contact a drawn winner by close of business on Friday 26 September 2025, the prize will be forfeited and another entry may be drawn.

6.6 Winners must collect their prize within 14 days of being contacted, failing which the prize will be forfeited. No further winners will be drawn to replace forfeited prizes.

6.7 To claim a prize, winners must provide proof of identity or residence when attending the branch to collect. Where such proof is not available, alternative verification may be accepted at the sole discretion of the branch manager. Mpact Recycling’s determination of eligibility will be final.

6.8 The branch manager’s decision in respect of all matters relating to the draw and winners is final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into.

7. Publicity

7.1 By entering this competition, participants consent to the processing and use of their personal information, including their name, image, and prize details, for purposes of administering the competition and publicity, in accordance with POPIA.

7.2 Photos taken at prize handovers may be used on Mpact Recycling’s social media channels, website, or other marketing material.

8. Right to amend or cancel

Mpact Recycling reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to amend, suspend, or cancel the competition or any prize at any time without prior notice, where such amendment, suspension, or cancellation is required due to events or circumstances beyond Mpact Recycling’s reasonable control. Mpact Recycling shall not be liable for any loss or damages suffered as a result of such amendment, suspension, or cancellation.

9. General

9.1 Mpact Recycling reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and disqualify any participant who tampers with the entry process, or who breaches or fails to comply with these Terms and Conditions.

9.2 Mpact Recycling will not be liable for lost, late, incomplete, misdirected, damaged, destroyed, or tampered entries, regardless of cause, including but not limited to technical failures, unauthorised access, or physical tampering with entry boxes.

9.3 All personal information collected will be processed in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and other applicable data protection laws.

9.4 Any disputes arising from or in connection with this competition will be resolved by Mpact Recycling in its sole discretion, and its decision will be final and binding. A decision by Mpact Recycling cannot be appealed or reviewed in any manner whatsoever.

9.5 By participating in the competition, participants confirm their acceptance of these Terms and Conditions in full.

9.6 All participants in the competition indemnify Mpact Recycling including its directors, employees and agents, and any of its group of companies, against any claim, loss or damage of any kind and howsoever caused arising as a result of or in connection with the competition.
